Australia

Brief Overview

Australian federal law classifies nicotine as a restricted poison unless it is approved by the Therapeutic Goods Administration (TGA) for use in traditional tobacco products (cigarettes, cigars, etc) or for approved therapeutic purposes. Therefore, nicotine e-liquid is currently not available for sale in Australia.

Non-nicotine e-cigarettes are classified as legal consumer products. The sale and marketing of ENDS is prohibited; though according to a statement, import for personal reasons may be permitted under certain instances. Advertising, promotion and sponsorship, as well as recreational use of ENDS, are inherently prohibited since the marketing of these products is banned.

There are a number of vape shops around Australia, generally found only in or near major cities.
