[Pronunciation: /stiːpɪŋ/]

Steeping is the practice of allowing e-liquid to sit and mature over time to bring out the full effect of the flavors added. Individual users implement a range of different techniques to steep e-liquid efficiently or quickly, from leaving the cap off the bottle (also known as streathing), to allowing e-liquid to steep in total darkness or at cold/hot temperatures, to artificially methods like using ultrasonic steeping.

Some e-liquids are considered ‘ready to vape’ straight away after mixing and won’t change much when steeped, others will change drastically (not always for the better), so steeping is something individual to the mix itself and can require a lot of trial and error to perfect. Experienced mixers can usually estimate best practices based on the flavor concentrates in a given mix and the quantities of each used.

As certain chemicals (nicotine being one) oxidize during the process itself it’s not uncommon for the e-liquid to change color, darkening over time.

Currently located in Sydney, Australia, I have been vaping since 2009 and became active in the e-cigarette industry in late 2015. Since then I’ve had the pleasure of visiting over 700 shops in 6 countries.
