Dear America, Don’t Punish The Kids For The Parents Mistakes
There was a time when people would leave their front doors unlocked; kids would play bare foot in the street; some would hale down a car to hitch a ride or travel to an unknown destination without the threat of Stranger Danger.
There was also a time where major corporations had so much creative freedom to influence and control the buying behaviours of the everyday consumer that people were manipulated to believe that More Doctors smoked Camels Than Any Other Cigarette, through the powerful medium we call ADVERTISING.
What a time to be alive!
Well, not anymore and rightfully so. The FDA Advertising & Promotion Guidelines for Tobacco Products make it next to impossible to market these products due to the approximate Worldwide 6 Million Deaths.
“Cigarette smoking is responsible for more than 480,000 deaths per year in the United States, including more than 41,000 deaths resulting from secondhand smoke exposure. This is about one in five deaths annually, or 1,300 deaths every day”
The big question is why E-cigarette products are being labeled as Tobacco Products? They clearly do not contain any tobacco nor do they combust causing poisonous and deadly smoke.
“The U.S. Food and Drug Administration recently finalized a rule that extends its regulatory authority to all tobacco products, including e-cigarettes, cigars, and hookah and pipe tobacco, as part of its goal to improve public health.
“Before this final rule, these products could be sold without any review of their ingredients, how they were made, and their potential dangers,” explains Mitch Zeller, J.D., director of the FDA’s Center for Tobacco Products. “Under this new rule, we’re taking steps to protect Americans from the dangers of tobacco products, ensure these tobacco products have health warnings, and restrict sales to minors.”
The way I see it, if Uncle Sam really does want to protect minors from the dangers of tobacco he would follow the UK’s approach and promotion of E-Cigarettes as the healthier alternative over traditional tobacco.
Without a doubt, the UK is leading the race when it comes to “Trashing the Pack” with their national campaign STOPTOBER:
An estimated 2.9 million adults in Great Britain currently use e-cigarettes and of these, 1.5 million people have completely stopped smoking cigarettes. They carry a fraction of the risk of cigarettes and can be particularly effective when combined with extra quitting support.
Bravo UK! Bravo!
The rest of the world really needs to take note and acknowledge the UK’s progress, as millions of people around the world are still denied the choice to vape.
Many people still don’t even know what it is due to the restrictions on advertising placed on e-cigarettes, not to mention the countless companies that are being blocked and pigeon-holed as the sellers of tobacco products, when in-fact they are part of the solution.
Also, just to clarify:
