Oregon

Brief Overview

The US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) classifies e-cigarettes and all related products as tobacco products. They regulate the sale, advertising, promotion, distribution, manufacture, import, packaging and labeling of e-cigarette products based on the laws set forth in the Tobacco Control Act and the Food, Drug, and Cosmetic Act (FD&C Act).

There is a statewide ban on electronic cigarettes in public places in Oregon. The Oregon Indoor Clean Air Act (found in section 433.835 of the Oregon Revised Statutes) was amended in January 2016 to add prohibitions on the use of e-cigarettes in restaurants, workplaces, indoor public places, and within 10 feet of entrances, exits, windows or ventilation intakes of these areas. All ‘No Smoking’ or ‘No Vaping’ signage posted in all public places must be followed.

There are a large number of e-cigarette stores to be found in certain areas of Oregon, including in and around the Portland area, Salem, Eugene, Medford, Bend, and Klamath Falls with a smaller number also to be found throughout some other areas of the state.
